Govt promotes engineering education on priority basis : President

Two bombs kill 26 people in Lahore
At least 26 people were killed by two bombs that ripped through a federal police office and an advertising agency in Lahore on Tuesday, officials said.
The first blast demolished part of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) office here, exposing the inside of the building and leaving piles of blackened rubble and burning cars.
“Twenty two people were killed in the blast that took place in FIA premises. It seems that a bomb was planted somewhere in the building.” local agency chief Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed told AFP. (more…)
$2.4bn allocated to introduce modern transport system in LahoreA sum of $ 2.4 billion would be spent for introducing new transport, light rail system in Lahore in collaboration with private sector in order to ensure latest facilities for people, Member Infrastructure Planning Commission of Pakistan Dr Asad Shah said Sunday.
Talking to Private TV channel, he said,$ 1.4 billion would be raised by private sector while $ 1 billion would be generated by public sector.
In addition, he said, the World Bank is providing a loan of $ 250 million for improving infrastructure of five big cities including Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala. (more…)
A suicide bomb attack outside the Lahore High Court
A suicide bomber walked up to policemen stationed outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Thursday and set off his explosives, killing 21 people, most of them police, officials said.
“Most of the victims are policemen. It was a suicide attack.”-Mian Ejaz (Senior city government official)
City police chief Malik Mohammad Iqbal told private TV channel that all but one of the victims were policemen.
“It appears the bomber was on foot and, as soon as some policemen tried to stop him, he blew himself up”-Malik Mohammad Iqbal.
Policemen had gathered outside the court in central Lahore ahead of a protest rally by lawyers.
Pakistan has seen a wave of bomb attacks in recent months, many of them suicide attacks on members of the security forces, but there has been none in Lahore, capital of Punjab province.
