On Monday, the 25th of February 2008, Pakistan lost a distinguished and revered artist. The world of art joins his family in mourning a great and gentle soul who will continue to live through his work for all time to come.

The country’s outstanding contemporary painter, Colin David, was an artist who understood the modern idiom in art. The sense of spatial harmony, brilliant use of colour and the contrapuntal element that balanced his work created paintings of rare and masterly quality. Musharraf inaugurates two projects in Karachi

President Pervez Musharraf on Monday inaugurated 16- kilometer Liyari Express South Bond and the project of Dyes and Mould Centre in Korangi Industrial Park.

On this occasion, he lauded Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad and Nazim Karachi Mustafa Kamal for the development works in the city.

High alert declared in whole country after bird flu confirmation

High alert has been declared in the whole country after bird flu (H5N1) confirmation in Karachi.

According to health ministry, all the hospitals have been issued the directives in this connection and isolation wards have been set up at hospitals.

The ministry sources said a programme worth Rs1.18 billion in this connection has been initiated.

The sources said that no bird flu virus is found in the flesh of poultry, adding that culling the birds is incumbent upon the district government and the district government should manage the affairs including sanitation and spray.

The sources said there are at least 25800 poultry farms and no license is needed in this regard; however, any person can open a poultry farm after getting an NOC from ministry of livestock.

The registration of poultry farms across the country has been started.

Police and rangers were on high alert in Karachi

Police and rangers were on high alert on Tuesday after a suicide bomber killed 11 people in Karachi in a bid to derail key February elections.

The bombing coincided with a visit to Karachi by President Pervez Musharraf and officials said it was intended to sow fear ahead of February 18 polls, already delayed once by the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto. (more…)
