UK for early end to Pakistan’s suspension from Commonwealth

Britain on Wednesday said as democracy was restored in Pakistan after credible elections, it will work towards calling an early meeting of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) to end Pakistan’s suspension from the Commonwealth.

In a telephone call to his Pakistani counterpart Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Britain foreign minister David Miliband said he was planning to visit Pakistan by the end of April. He congratulated Shah Mehmood Qureshi on assumption of office of foreign minister and invited him to visit London. (more…)

President Pervez Musharraf on Thursday said the Commonwealth should realistically appreciate the steps taken by Pakistan for consolidation of democracy in the country.

Talking to Foreign Minister of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Rohitha Bogollagama at his Camp Office in Rawalpindi, President Pervez Musharraf appreciated the principled position adopted by the Sri Lankan government at the Commonwealth. (more…)
