
The export of Basmati rice was increased by 23.95 % during the period under review however the export of other rice commodities was declined by 19.50 %, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics.
The food export from Pakistan has shown upward trend during the first seven months of the current financial year as it increased by 4.78 % when compared to the figures of the corresponding period of the last financial year.
The food group export increased from $1.07 billion from July-January 2006- 07 to $1.13 billion from July-January of the current financial year.
The export of fruits from Pakistan grew by 17.36 % by going up from $71.45 million in 2006-07 to $83.85 million during the time under review.
Similarly the export of vegetables was increased by 66.45 % by going up from $16.65 million in the last financial year to $ 27.72 million from July-January 2007-08.
The export of fish and fish products was declined by 1.4 % while export of leguainous vegetables and wheat declined by 55.73 % and 100 % respectively.
The other items which witnessed upward trend in export included spices, sugar and meat products, which increased by 5.75, 100 and 27.09 % respectively while the export of oil seeds, nuts and kernals also increased by 161 % during the first seven months of the financial year.
When compared to December 2007, the food export during January 2008 was increased by 12.8 % and it was increased by 7.6 % as against January 2007.
