Two sisters killed, five injured in roof collapse
Two sisters died and five of their family members were injured when the dilapidated roof of their house collapsed in the heavy rain in the Baghbanpura area here on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Bakhtawar, 18, and Irum, 16, and the injured as Ghulam Shabbir, 40, head of the family, his wife Shahnaz Bibi, 35, Natasha, 8, and her two siblings Shahbaz and Riaz.
According to Edhi officials, the family members were in their rundown two-storey house near a marriage hall when its roof caved in during the heavy rain. Rescue 1122 shifted the bodies and the injured to hospital. The injured were stated to be out of danger.
The Shalimar Town TMO was contacted a number of time to ascertain the responsibility of the incident, but he was not available. Earlier, the DCO had formed committees to evacuate or repair rundown buildings before the start of the monsoon but to no avail.
