Indian FM calls on President Musharraf

President Pervez Musharraf met India’s foreign minister at the president’s camp office here on Wednesday as the two countries resumed peace efforts after a lull caused by political turmoil in Pakistan.

The president in the meeting with Indian minister urged for success of the bilateral talks.

Mukherjee held talks with the president over bilateral affairs matters. President Musharraf urged the two sides to work for progress and success in the talks over Occupied Kashmir issue.

Indian FM Pranab Mukherjee lauded the confidence building policies during President Musharraf’s tenure.

Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon was also accompanied with Mukherjee.

Pranab Mukherjee arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday to review a four-year-old peace process that has improved ties after the neighbours nearly went to war in 2002 but has failed to make progress on their main dispute over the Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK).

Top foreign ministry officials met on Tuesday to prepare for talks on Wednesday between Mukherjee and his Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Officials from both sides said Tuesday’s talks had made progress but no one expected a breakthrough on IoK.

Mukherjee is due to meet Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani later today.
