Reinstatement notification likely todayNotification on reinstatement of sacked judiciary, detailed judgement in Sharif brothers’ disqualification case and review petition against that decision are likely today. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday announced reinstatement of all judges deposed by former President Pervez Musharraf on November 3, 2007 after their refusal to take a fresh oath under the PCO.
The government adopted various modes to address judicial crisis which include increase in number of apex court judges from 16 to 29 to accommodate deposed judges, payment of salaries to all deposed judges and restoration of deposed judges through fresh oath. (more…)
COAS held routine meeting with president : ISPR
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani held a meeting with President Pervez Musharraf at the Army House here late on Wednesday ISPR spokesman confirmed it on Thursday.
According to press release issued by DG ISPR Athar Abbas it was a routine meeting and issue relating to country’s security situation at Pak-Afghan border, Pak support to US war on terrorism were discussed.

Presidency, PPP indirect talks end in collapse
The indirect talks between Presidency and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) aides have ended in collapsed here on Friday.
President Pervez Musharraf taking serious notice of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s statement that Musharraf is stumbling bloc in the way of democracy, directed all his advisors including former minister Tariq Azeem not to hold any talks with Zardari aides.
Indian FM calls on President MusharrafPresident Musharraf has denied to accept any reduction in president’s authorities and has said that article 58-2 (b) would not be removed.

President Pervez Musharraf met India’s foreign minister at the president’s camp office here on Wednesday as the two countries resumed peace efforts after a lull caused by political turmoil in Pakistan.
The president in the meeting with Indian minister urged for success of the bilateral talks.

Abducted Pak ambassador Tariq Azizuddin recovered
Pakistan’s ambassador to Afghanistan Tariq Azizuddin kidnapped by suspected militants more than three months ago has been recovered safe, a senior official said on Saturday.
Envoy Tariq Azizuddin was heading to the Afghan capital Kabul with his driver when he disappeared in the troubled Khyber tribal district bordering Afghanistan on February 11.
Media reports, quoting unnamed sources, said “the ambassador has been recovered safe and will reach home soon,” but did not provide details. (more…)

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Saturday that the Pakistan Peoples Party had a long history of struggle and sacrifice for the cause of democracy in the country.
Talking to media persons at the State Guest House here, the Prime Minister said that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto waged a long hard struggle for democracy in the country, which was unmatched in the world.
He said that the credit for introducing the 1973 Constitution goes to late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, a constitution which is practicable, effective and enjoys wide acceptability. (more…)
Pakistan tests nuclear-capable missile Shaheen II
Pakistan on Monday successfully test-fired a long-range ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear and conventional warheads, the military said.
The Shaheen II, or Hatf VI, missile with a range of 2,000 kilometres (1,280 miles) was launched from an undisclosed location, military said in a statement issued. (more…)
Musharraf for international, regional cooperation to protect environment
President Pervez Musharraf called on Saturday for strengthening concerted international and regional co-operation, protect the environment, strive for conservation and improvement of energy efficiency and free transfer of technology to cut environmental hazards.
In a keynote address here at the Boao Forum for Asia on “Green Asia: Moving towards win-win through changes” the president said “the challenge of sustaining economic development and ensuring environmental protection is overwhelming and beyond the capacity of most individual countries in Asia.” (more…)
