Mr Imran Khan the Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf has issued a statement made over the telephone from India where he was when the tragedy of the assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto happened in Pakistan. Over many frantic telephone calls made to all office bearers including to Dr Arif Alvi the Secretary General-Elect of PTI, he said that he strongly condemns this dastardly act of terror perpetrated on this great leader of the PPP. He said that he conveys his very deep sense of grief to Mrs Nusrat Bhutto, Mr Asif Zardari, Mohtarma Benazir’s children, Mrs Sanam Bhutto and to the rank and file of the PPP as well as to the people of Pakistan.
Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto showed her love for her country by making the biggest final sacrifice any person can make. He also said that the people of Pakistan must stay united in the condemnation of terrorism which was Mrs Bhutto’s primary target in her mission to salvage Pakistan from the present mess created by the military rulers of this country. He also said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf stands by the people of Sindh in this time of sorrow when they too along with the people of Pakistan have lost a great leader who struggled for the autonomy of all provinces.
Mr Imran Khan reminded the people of Pakistan that Mrs Bhutto had appealed for investigation of the previous bomb blast which took place in Karachi and in which she narrowly escaped losing her life, in fact she appealed for an investigation team to come from UK for this purpose too. The Chairman of PTI demanded an urgent investigation of the assassination so that the people of Pakistan are informed about the real perpetrators of this evil deed. She was a brave person and continued her election campaign in spite of all threats to her life. He said that the PTI demands that Mr Musharraf should resign, and a national government of consensus should be formed to hold free and fair elections according to the constitution because Mrs Bhutto’s death and the tragedy which has struck Pakistan has all the signs of a conspiracy against this country and only an elected civilian government can take charge of the situation.
May Mohtarma’s Soul Rest in Peace
